It’s been a tough week at our house.
On Wednesday last week, we discovered that the heating element in our dishwasher (a Kenmore and more on this another time) warped and melted a hole in the basin of the dishwasher which led to some major water damage in our kitchen and main bathroom. Preliminary numbers indicate that the total damage will range between $15,000-$17,500. I am still in shock and am grateful that we have a good insurance company behind us.
I realize that there is a process that needs to be followed when a claim is made, but I gotta tell you – navigating the process is not easy. I’m still trying to figure who looks out for the homeowner and our interests in the process!
Patience is not my best quality and today my wife said that resonated with me. She noted that I am a “solution guy”. I am always trying to solve a problem and, when I can’t solve it or get the matter resolved quickly, my lack of patience gets the better of me.
You can’t control everything. This is a hard lessons to learn for me.
When it comes to our little big mess in our kitchen, it’s completely out of my control. All I can do is patiently wait for the people we’ve engaged to do their job … however long that takes.
My hope is that when our house is back to normal, I will have finally learned the lesson that some things will always be out of my control.
