If you take a moment and visit the podcast section in the iTunes store, you’ll quickly realize that everyone and their brother/sister now has a show. With just a few dollars and a microphone, getting into the podcast creation game is something almost everyone can now do.
As a podcast host and producer myself, I spend a considerable amount of time (while I’m driving or running) listening to what others are doing. Over the past few years, I’ve discovered some great podcast and, unfortunately, some not-so-great ones.
As a result of my interests and personality, I tend to gravitate to podcasts that feature long-form conversation on a specific or variety of topics.
Tops on My Playlist
Slate’s Political Gabfest: I’m a news/political junkie and have always had a fascination with the broad policy issues that affect our nation and our world. I look forward to Friday morning because I know that David Plotz, Emily Bazelon and John Dickerson will inform, educate and entertain me on the latest happenings in the world of politics. In addition to discussing some of the major issues of the week, they end each show with a segment called “Cocktail Chatter.” This segment is always interesting and serves as the gateway to exploring some other great content. 99% Invisible: Roman Mars has created a power-house podcast and it’s worth joining the millions who tune in each week to catch his next episode. The show is a tiny radio show about design, architecture & the 99% invisible activity that shapes our world. Every episode keeps you on the edge of your seat and the production value is second to none. One thing is for sure, every episode will result in you learning something new about the world around you. The Good Life Project: Jonathan Fields is doing some incredible stuff with The Good Life Project. All episodes are a reflection of his personal mission which is to help individuals and organizations build better solutions, businesses, art and lives in less time, with more joy and less effort. Each episode – also available in full HD video – features a meaningful conversation with an interesting guest. I always walk away from a listening session inspires and motivated.
