“And I believe that for all our imperfections, we are full of decency and goodness, and that the forces that divide us are not as strong as those that unite us.” ~ President Barack Obama (January 12, 2011 in Tucson, Az)
The time is now…
We can no longer wait for the tone and tenor of our national discourse to change. We must take action today. I hope you will take a moment today and in the days to come to rise up to this challenge.
We live in challenging times – both economically and politically. I am just at a lost to explain why – as individuals – we’ve decided that our way, our opinion is the only one that matters.
I wrote about this fact in mid-November in a post title “Open Letter to Our Newly Elected Officials.” As a nation and as a people, we are in desperate need of a new tone in our national discourse. We can not go on like this.
Through conversations, life happens and finds meaning.
You and I will disagree. You and I will have differing opinions.
In our disagreement, we can choose a different path. In our differing opinion, we can choose a different rhetoric. We can choose to be in a civil conversation.
You and I … can live up to the possibilities.
You and I … can take the first step towards a better tomorrow.
You and I … can be the catalyst to a more civil national discourse.
So my question for you today is simple … will you join me in setting a new course?Image courtesy of CNN
