Have you ever found yourself saying: “it’ll be easier if I just do it myself.”
I uttered this line more times than I willing to admit and, if you’re honest with yourself, you are as guilty as I am.
In my humble opinion, it’s our nature to want to be independent. The moment we start to crawl and walk we immediately want to go out on our own. As we grow older, we can wait to leave the family nest and make it on our own.
In business, the same is true. We do everything we can to make ourselves indispensable. We take on project after project in an attempt to justify our worth and to “show the world” we can do it all. And there in lies the problem … we can’t do it all.
That’s where collaboration comes into play. When we leverage our strengths with the strengths of others wonderful things happen … it’s inevitable.
The cost of collaboration … well, it’s far less than you think. In fact, I’d say the upside of collaboration will outweigh any cost you try to associate to it.
What are you waiting for? Open your office door, encourage your organization and your team members to collaborate. In fact reward them when they do. Foster a culture that encourages collaboration and you’ll quickly realize that the possibilities are endless.
Be well and make it a great day!
