I’ve been a follower of Chris Brogan’s work for the past two years. Not everything he publishes is of interest to me, but on most days, I glean helpful information and inspiration.
One thing that fascinated me about Chris last year was his selection of three words to guide his work in 2010. Just last week, in his latest Human Business Works newsletter, he spoke again about this:
You know we do things differently here. One way is that we don’t do resolutions. Why? Because those get broken about as fast as you try to write them. Instead, we do “three words.” Pick 3 words that have a lot of meaning and that you can use as guideposts for things you want to do in 2011.
You can check out Chris’s three words for 2011 in blog post for today.
This year, I though I would take a cue from Chris and select three words that would guide my work as a podcast host and musician in the next 12 months.
SHARE. DISCOVER. HEALTH.
Share: I will share more of my talents, gifts, and knowledge with those around me. More interesting conversations and music will be shared in 2011. More importantly, I will share time with family, friends and engage in more meaningful activities that bring value and life to me and those around me.
Discover: I will make 2011 a year of discovery on both the personal and professional front. I want to explore, with more depth, the areas I am passionate about and see what possibilities exist. I want to expand and broaden the conversations I am having with a few friends and discover what the future holds as it relates to our discussions.
Health: In the coming year, I will continue the journey to a healthier lifestyle I began in September of 2010. I will commit to exercising at least 4 days a week; I will run a half-marathon and I will reconnect with nature and be inspired by its majesty by taking another canoe trip in the Boundary Waters Canoe Area. I will get more sleep!
As Chris Brogan clearly indicates, these words are not meant to serve as goals but as guidepost in the journey that will be 2011. I am excited about the coming year and wholeheartedly believe that my best years are still ahead.
I wish you all the best in 2011 and hope you’ll join me in living an abundant life.Images courtesy of iStockPhoto #14538314
