“So this is Christmas, and what have you done. Another year over …”
~ John Lennon’s Happy Christmas
In 10 days, we’ll gather to celebrate the arrival of 2012! I thought I would take some time and share with you some of the things that caught my attention during the past year.
December is always a time to reflect; a time to look back at what we’ve accomplished during the past year. Everyone seems to have a “best of” list and I think there is some value is putting down on paper the things (books, movies, music, conversations) that had an impact on your journey. In many ways – what we read, what we listen to, the conversations we have – have a tremendous impact on the lives we live.
So here goes, my “lists” for 2011!
Great Books I Read
I love to read and having a Kindle (thanks Mom for the birthday gift) I’ve been able to do more reading. Of the many books I read, here are the ones that stood out:
Love In The Time of Foreclosure (affiliate link) by Stephanie Walker
Confidence Men: Wall Street, Washington, and the Education of a President (affiliate link) by Ron Suskind
The Radical Lead Re-Energized (affiliate link) by Steve Farber
A Voice in the Box: My Life in Radio (affiliate link) by Bob Edwards
Naked in Baghdad: The Iraq War as Seen by NPR’s Correspondent Anne Garrels (affiliate link) by Anne Garrels
Onward (affiliate link) by Howard Schultz
Great Music I Added to my Playlist
Music is a big part of my life! Here is a sample of the albums that made up the “soundtrack to my life” in 2011:
Glory (affiliate link) by Michael W. Smith
Rare Bird Alert (affiliate link) by Steve Martin and the Steep Canyon Ranchers
Gathering Mercury (affiliate link) by Colin Hay
The Living Side (affiliate link) by Meg Hutchinson
Be My Thrill (affiliate link) by The Weepies
Follow Me Down (affiliate link) by Sarah Jarosz
* Simple Things (affiliate link) by Marc Vaillancourt — I realize this is my own CD, but I’m really proud of the way it turned out!
Through conversations, life happens and finds meaning! Of the more than 50 conversations I hosted for The Conversation Hub podcast this year, the following rise to the top as some of my favorites:
Episode 33 – my conversation with extreme leader Steve Farber.
Episode 40 – my conversation with Dick Gordon, host of WUNC’s The Story.
Episode 50 – my conversation with author Melinda Blau.
Episode 55 – my conversation with child Holocaust survivor Aaron Elster.
Episode 75 – my conversation with playwright and author Stephanie Walker.
Episode 77 – my conversation with Sirius XM Radio’s Bob Edwards.
Episode 80 – my recent conversation with contemporary Christian recording artist Jason Gray.
So long, Farewell, Auf wiedersehen, Adieu
2011 will go down as a great year! There are several more lists I could create, but we’ll leave that for another day.
The only question that remains … what made your list in 2011?
