A few months ago, I wrote a post (you can read it here) about the conversation I’d been having with myself about exercise. The conversation has changed considerably since that time.
Here is an update …
Six months ago, I introduced myself to a new friend – exercise and healthy eating. It’s been a tough road – there are days when going to the gym or out for a run was the last things on my mind. Being mindful of what I’m eating is not always easy, but making the right decision has now become second nature for me.
My new commitment to a healthier lifestyle is paying off in a very important way for me. I’ve struggled with excess weight. Since my journey started in September, I’ve shed a total of 52 pounds. I feel great and I am closer to the goal I set for myself way back in September.
As I noted in my post back in September, running has never been my thing. That is now changing – since I started tracking my miles in late October, I’ve logged more than 150 miles. The last official race I ran was in 1983 (my freshmen year of high school) and it was not a big success – to say the least. This past weekend, my wife and I and our good friend Jan Burley, joined 5,000 other people to run the Get Lucky 7K race in Minneapolis. I had a great day and completed the course (4.5 miles) in [45:18] or at a pace of [10:18]/miles. I had a blast and yes … I love to go out for a run!!!!
Well it’s actually 13.1 … this is the distance I will run in less than 4 weeks. Heather (my wife) and I set the Earth Day Half Marathon in St. Cloud, MN as a personal goal at the beginning of 2011. We’ve worked hard and still have a ways to go in our training but we are both excited about the event.
Six, Fifty-Two, Seven and Thirteen may just be random numbers … but to me, they are part of a new conversation I am having with myself and I couldn’t be happier.
Your turn, what new conversation are you having with yourself?
