It’s been a crazy month.
On St. Patrick’s Day, the water line to our ice maker burst (unfortunate event #1) and caused more than $10,000 in damages to our kitchen and our basement. I must tell you that 9 months ago, our dishwasher leaked and that event caused some serious damage at the time and a new kitchen floor was put in at that time.
Earlier this month, specifically on the day my wife celebrated her 40th birthday, our wonderful puppy Nelly had a freak accident while playing and broke her leg (unfortunate event #2). A quick visit to the vet and we were told that she would need surgery to have a plate put in.
Last night, a few short hours after the kitchen floor had been replaced for the second time, unfortunate event #3 happened. The plumber who removed the dishwasher for the installation of the new floor failed to cap the drain plug on the garbage disposal – you know, the one where the dishwasher drain hose connect to. To our amazement – or should I say horror – water came pouring out of the cabinet and onto the brand new floor. This morning, two planks of the brand new floor were already warped and we suspect the padding is soaked. That floor is not even a day old!
If bad things do come in 3’s, then this must be the end and we should have smooth sailing ahead.
There’s a light at the end of the tunnel, I know there is. However, I must confess that for the moment, my glass is most certainly not half full, it’s empty.
It’s in moments like these that I am glad I have a wonderful wife, friend and life partner. Even in the most trying of times, she finds the silver lining and amazes me with her ability to remain positive. I’m grateful she has this outlook and has enough to carry us both!

Be well and make it a great day!
