It’s the first day of school for many of us. At our house, the morning is already full of activity and it’s not even 6:30am yet!
My son Sebastien starts high school; my daughter Cecilia heads into 6th grade; and Stella, my youngest, enters the 2nd grade. And that’s not all, my lovely bride begins her second year as a teacher.
I stopped by her classroom yesterday to help with one last little project she wanted done before her “kids” got there and I was greeted by the most powerful message I’ve seen in a while!
What a great message to send your students on their first day of school. It serves as an invitation to be who you want to be and affirms that you already are.
It’s a message that we, as adults, should remember and use as a guide for the rest of our days. Children are fearless and always eager to try new things! As adults, we tend to box ourselves in and provide a litany of excuses as to why we can’t do something.
As you go about your day today, be empowered and at all times, be the “third-grade” version of yourself.
You know the one …
- the one that is fearless;
- the one that is eager to explore the world;
- the one that believes that all is possible.
So, on this first day of school, I thank all teachers for the work they do and the inspiration they are to our children. I thank my wife for being the great teacher that she is and for reminding me that “all I ever needed to know, I learned in kindergarten!”
Be well and make it great day!
