I’m a Canadian expat making a life here in the United States. I’ve been her for 13+ years and truly consider Minnesota to be my home. I’ve always been intrigued by people who choose to leave their homeland to live and work in other parts of the world.

The Middle East has always been front and center in the story of the United States. Since 9/11 (and long before that), that part of the world has been at the intersection of many of our military and diplomatic efforts. I wanted to be in conversation with someone who’s lived, worked and is now making a life in that part of the world.
Enter Trish Conrad Grierson. Trish has worked and lived in that part of the world for the past several years. She’s a communications and public affairs professional with over fifteen years experience providing counsel and assistance to both public and private sector employers and clients. Her professional journey has taken her to Iraq, Afghanistan and Indonesia.
She now makes her home in Cyprus. We connected earlier this week (in the wee hours of the morning in Minnesota) to talk about living abroad, the cultural differences she has to navigate and what it’s like to be an American civilian working in Iraq and Afghanistan.
You can learn more about Trish by visiting her LinkedIn profile and by following her on Twitter.
