I am delighted to bring you my conversation with Michael Hyatt for episode #45.
I’ve been following Michael’s blog for the past few years and was delighted that he accepted my invitation to be in conversation.
During our time together, Michael talked about leadership and life planning and did so in a way that is very inspirational. As is the case with most of my conversations for this podcast series, this one could have gone one for hours.
About Michael Hyatt
Michael Hyatt is the Chairman of Thomas Nelson Publishers, the largest Christian publishing company in the world and the seventh largest trade book publishing company in the U.S.
He is an avid blogger and a good number of his posts are focused on “intentional leadership.” His philosophy is simple — if you are going to lead well, you must be thoughtful and purposeful about it.
He writes on leadership, productivity, publishing, social media, and, on occasion, stuff that doesn’t fit neatly into one of these categories.
Michael has worked in the book publishing industry for his entire career. He began at Word Publishing while a student at Baylor University and worked there for a total of six years. In addition to serving as Vice President of Marketing at Thomas Nelson in the mid-80s, he also started his own publishing company, Wolgemuth & Hyatt, with his partner Robert Wolgemuth in 1986. Word eventually acquired his company in 1992.
He was a successful literary agent from 1992 until early 1998. He rejoined Thomas Nelson in 1998. Since that time he’s worked in a variety of roles in both divisional and corporate management. He was promoted to President and COO in February 2004 and CEO in August 2005. Shortly after our conversation, Michael retired as CEO but retained the role of chairman.
He’s written four books, one of which landed on the New York Times bestseller list where it stayed for seven months. He is currently working on two new books, one on leadership and one on productivity.
