But there’s a story behind everything. How a picture got on a wall. How a scar got on your face. Sometimes the stories are simple, and sometimes they are hard and heartbreaking. But behind all your stories is always your mother’s story, because hers is where yours begin.
― Mitch Albom,
Today is an important day.
Today is a special day.
Today is my mother’s birthday.
I am who I am today because of the unconditional love and support she gives me. She is the thread that connects the pieces that make up the fabric of my life.
Every part of my story connects back to her. She was the cornerstone to every success I had as a child. She encouraged me to reach for the stars and picked me up when I stumbled. She questioned but never doubted. She was and continues to be my biggest fan.
For the last two decades, most of our conversations have been via telephone. I may only see her a few times a year, but she is always with me. When I hear her voice, I feel like I’m home and all is well with the world.
She is the mother God knew I needed and for that I will always be grateful. I rejoice in knowing that when she became “Maman” for the first time, I was the one she was holding.
So, on this day I give thanks for Denise Fortier Vaillancourt – daughter, sister, friend, wife and, more importantly, Maman.
Happy birthday mom! I love you.
Bonne fête chère Maman! Je t’aime beaucoup.
