I find inspiration in many places. Every year I make note of people I want to follow throughout the year. The reasons why they make my list are many, but in most cases it’s because they’re doing something that’s inspiring and they’re encouraging me to think differently about what I’m doing.
So, here’s the list of people – in no specific order – I’ll be following in 2014:
Jamie Millard is the Co-CEO for OTA-Pollen, a midwest digital and physical convening nonprofit working to spark regional transformation through creative collisions and connections. She is also the co-founder of Paper Darts. I’m following her because she’s a strong voice in the non-profit sector and she’s passionate about building community! She’s also a great speaker and her TEDx Talk should be required viewing for young and old! Keep up with her on Twitter at @jjmillard.
Jon Acuff is an author, blogger and dreamer. He’s written several books with my favorite one being Start: Punch Fear in the Face, Escape Average & Do Work that Matters. Although I’ve never met Jon, I sense from his writing that he is a genuine and authentic person and someone I’d love to share a caffeinated conversation with. He’s passionate about his tribe, a master at building community and committed to adding an insane amount of value to those who interact with him. You can follow him on Twitter at @jonacuff and I recommend you check out his blog at acuff.me.
Allison Vesterfelt is an author and her recent book, Packing Light: Thoughts On Living Life With Less Baggage is directly responsible for one of my three words for the year. There’s just something about her writing and the perspective she has. As someone who’s long wondered “what I’m going to do when I grow up” I seem to find a little more clarity every time I read one of her blog post. If you’re carrying a little excess baggage, you might want pick up her book and subscribe to her blog. You can follow her on Twitter at @allyvest.
Brian Gardner is a blogger, coffee addict and founder of StudioPress (this site is built using one of his themes). I first discovered him when I was looking for programming code to do something on this site and quickly realized that we had one thing in common – coffee! Brian’s a Starbuck addict, while I’m partial Caribou. He’s an amazing writer – as an aspiring poet he’d have to be I guess! I love the honesty of his personal blog posts and I find they push me to think differently. He speaks unabashedly about being a follower of Jesus and I love that. I recommend you visit his blog and follow him on Twitter at @bgardner. PS – His latest post might have just convinced me that I need to start watching Downton Abbey…
Glenn Fleishman is the editor and publisher of The Magazine and the host of The New Disruptors podcast. I discovered Glen’s podcast thanks to a recommendation on my Stitcher app. I was hooked right away and I’ve gone back to listen to past episodes. Glenn is a technology journalist with more than 20 years of writing experience. More importantly, I’m drawn to his interview style – as a podcast host myself, I’m always interested in improving my style. I encourage you to check out his podcast and follow him on Twitter at @glennf.
There you have it, the list of people I’ll be watching in 2014!
