A little over two years ago I took up the sport of running. I’ve written a few posts about this over that period and looking back, it’s clear to me that the biggest take-away for me is this: just start!
It sounds so simple but it’s incredibly rewarding. It doesn’t need to be perfect; it doesn’t need to be big but it has to start somewhere. I was reminded of this last night when the Hutchinson Community Running Group gathered for the inaugural “outdoor” run of the season.
Last June, to help celebrate National Day of Running, I sent notice that I’d be leading a 3-mile run. It was a random post on my Facebook page and 16 people joined me for a run that evening. From there, we gathered every week and had more than 150 runners joined us for one of our runs in late August.
After an informal hiatus over the winter months, the group gathered again last night for the first run of the season. The amazing thing – a bunch of new faces and more than 45 runners. We averaged between 15-20 runners all last year and on our first day back we more than doubled it!
The point in all of this – just start! Whether it’s about getting healthier or it’s about exploring a new career opportunity or started a new business, you need to start.
The difference between where you are today and where you want to be tomorrow – a first step!
What are you waiting for … Just start!
Be well and make it a great day!
