Inspiring possibilities. It sounds easy doesn’t it? Well, it isn’t but there is still hope.
Here is a scenario that always gets my blood pressure rising …
You’re are ask to come to a brainstorming session by your boss – the organization is at the crossroads, big decisions need to be made, but we want to brainstorm ideas on how to achieve our objective. You are specifically told: “think outside the box”, come prepared to “put forth your best idea”, “no idea is a bad idea“, come prepared to “explore the possibilities.”
So, you and the others invited to the conversation do exactly what you are told – you put on your thinking cap and you allow yourself the opportunity to think outside the proverbial box. Meeting day arrives and the discussion begins. With flip chart and marker ready, your boss says, “alright, who wants to start?” The conversation begins and ideas are thrown out and then it happens … the words you thought would not be uttered in this conversation are spoken, by your boss, loudly and clearly … “nice idea, but we can’t really do that”, “that’s not the way we do things here.”
Have you been part of a conversation like this before? I’m sure you have and today I am asking you to no give up.
Your Call to Action
Continue to bring your ideas to the table.

Continue to push the envelope.
Continue to color outside the lines.
Your boss, your organization needs you to “think outside the box” – they just don’t know it yet or are clearly blind to this fact!
Make 2011 the year you engage in conversations that inspire possibilities. We need people like you more than ever!
