In Minnesota, there is no greater sport than that of hockey. In fact, we love the game so much here, we’ve come to be known as the State of Hockey! This past weekend, the Minnesota Hockey Regional Tournaments were held in various communities in our great state.
The Hutchinson Bantam A team – my son plays for them – earned the honor to play in the South Regional Tourney in Rochester. After what can only be described as an amazing year (32-5-5), the boys clinched a berth in the Bantam A State Tournament.
Under the guidance of head coach Marc Telecky, they gave everything they had and, at every game, played their hearts out for each other. They never stopped believing in their ability to do great things. Last night, they were rewarded with a trip to the Minnesota Hockey State Tournament!
Here’s what I took away from watching this team play over the past 5 months:
- Team Above Self: At every turn, these young men believed they could achieve more if they put the team first. During every game they demonstrated the power of selfless play and by doing so, have achieved great things.
- Have a Vision: From day one, the coaching staff set the goal and the boys worked hard to achieve it. Were there bumps in the road? Yes. Was it easy? No. The navigated the peaks and valleys of their season and never lost sight of were they were going and what their ultimate goal was.
- Never Give Up: Giving up is an easy thing to do but it’s something this team never did. They always believed in their ability to succeed. Their coaches never gave up on them and, in turn, they never gave up on each other. This was evident in more ways then one this past weekend!
It’s been a pleasure to watch this team and I can’t wait to cheer them on at State.
Keep up the great work boys! You are an inspiration to all of us!
Go Tigers Go!!
Be well and make it a great day!
