It’s that time of year – the time of year when we are invited to holiday gatherings!
The calendar is full of opportunities to be in conversations. It’s part of the routine – we get invited to a gathering with people we might not choose to be with – and, for the short period of time, we engage in superficial conversations about stuff we don’t care about.
I’ve done it before … I’ve gone through the motions and appeared to be present in the moment.
This year, I will choose to go deeper and I’ll make it a point to engage in a conversation about something that’s a little more meaningful. In his bestselling book It’s Not Just Who You Know (affiliate link), author Tommy Spaulding encourages us to take the opportunity to elevate the conversation to something more than just about N.S.W. (news, sports and weather).
We all have a back story and this holiday season, I will choose to explore that story and be present in the moment and be open to the conversation that is before me.
In the end, there is one thing I know for sure…. through conversations, life happens and finds meaning.
Going deep might just open the door to an incredible opportunity, and … it might just be what the person I’m talking with needed – to be engaged in a conversation that was more than just about news, sports and weather.
