I get easily distracted…
Whether it’s technology, pre-occupations about matters related to home and work, or the more than 200 television channels available to us, it’s easy for me to get distracted.
There are moments when I find it difficult to focus on what’s happening in the here and now. I’m easily distracted by what I need to do next, the list of things that awaits me at the office or at home; and, more specifically, I get easily distracted by the constant pinging of my phone.
At our church service this morning, our pastors spoke about this in their joint message. As a nation and as individuals, we a more connected then we’ve ever been. Conversely, we also find ourselves living in a time where it’s difficult to maintain meaningful connections.
This got me thinking ….
So, starting this week, I will make a concerted effort – it starts with with baby steps – to be more present in the conversations I have with people. It won’t be easy – the world around me will be seeking my attention – but be present to the people I engage in conversation with will have a positive impact on my life and on my relationships.
That’s my goal, to live in the moment and to give myself away to the conversation.
It starts now, with my wife and kids. It continues tomorrow, over coffee, with my good friend Ian and, from there, with the countless other people I will engage in conversation over the next days, weeks and months!
When was the last time you gave yourself away to a conversation?
