Our elected officials are at it again.
In Washington, republicans and democrats are at it again. If they keep going the way there are, there’s a good chance the government will shut down and/or the full faith and credit of the United States won’t be worth anything. I’m not going to pretend that I have the answer to all of our problems or that my way is better than someone else’s – doing so would be emulating the behavior we’re seeing in Washington.
What surprises me in all of the recent shenanigans is that we seem to have forgotten how to be in conversation with each other. And when I say “we”, I mean you and I. Think about the interactions you’ve had lately – are you truly having a conversation or are you just focussing on what you need to say next to make sure you get your way?
I think it’s time for all of us to shake things up. We may not be able to do anything about the discourse in Washington, but we can engage in more meaningful conversations with the people we interact and do business with. I am a firm believer in the power of conversation and one way to engage in a meaningful conversation is to have it over coffee.
There’s power in sharing a caffeinated conversation. I’ve solved more issues, generated more ideas and change my own little corner of the world by sharing caffeinated conversation and you can too!
It’s simple, call up your neighbor, colleague or someone who’s on the opposite side of the issue then you are; grab a cup of coffee and engage in a meaningful conversations. You’ll quickly realize that:
Through conversation … relationships are formed;
Through conversation … knowledge is shared; and,
Through conversation … life happens and finds meaning.
Be well and make it a great day!
