I am currently in Boston attending the international conference of the Association for Healthcare Philanthropy.
I was excited to hear the opening speaker – John Jacobs, the chief creative optimist (and co-founder) of Life is Good®. What a great way to start my day and to kick off a conference. John’s energy, passion and optimism were extremely contagious. He had some inspiring things to say:
Remember, the music is not in the guitar.
Think outside the box.
Everything is a once in a lifetime experience.
Optimism will take you anywhere.
These statements are all found on the various t-shirt, caps and other apparel created by John, his brother Bert and the folks at Life Is Good. They are all simple statements we all know are true, but choose to ignore. I was, like everyone in the room, captivated by the simple guideposts John was giving us.
The one guidepost he shared with us that with that truly resonated with was this:
Be wide open!
Why this did make such an impact with me – I think it’s simple … being wide open to the world around us; to the conversations that present themselves is the secret to living a full life.
To be wide open to the world around us also means that we need to be present in each moment. That’s the challenge isn’t – to be present and open to the possibilities that present themselves to us each and everyday.
Be present and be wide open … seems like a simple road map to a life lived to the fullest!
