Always and forever is a really long time.
The sun will rise in the east and set in the west and do this always and forever.
And that is how it works – every day is a new day, a new opportunity.
Always and forever does not apply to who we are. The person you are today is so much more than the person you were yesterday. Today’s experiences will play a role in defining who you are in that moment and will impact who you become tomorrow.
Don’t get me wrong, there are things about who we are that won’t change much. In my case, I’ll always be the eldest of four boys; I will always be a Canadian first – and this regardless of where I live; and, on a lighter note, I’ll never be a fan of the Toronto Maple Leafs. Everything else is up for grabs!
Here is s great quote from Leonard Cohen, poet, author, singer and songwriter.
Forget your perfect offering. There’s a crack in everything, that’s how the light gets in.
I share this with you today because we seem to be surrounded by a culture that is forcing us to pick a side or pick a version of who we want to be and stick with it. Personally, I think that the wrong thing to do.
Be who you are and be where you are and know that who you are will have many iterations. You don’t have to compromise your values to be a person who is open to what the world has to offer.
If always and forever is important to you, get up early and look to the eastern sky; or, as the day comes to an end, look to the western sky – I promise that the sun will be there with you … always and forever.
Each and every day presents us with an opportunity to breathe in new possibilities and to be adventurous in our experiences.
Go forth and live a life in session!
