Welcome to our first episode of 2014!
Our guest this week is Sara Andersen from Legacy Lane Farms. I was intrigued by something she shared in an email she sent me after listening to a few of our past episodes. She mentioned that after 18 years of dairy-farming, her and husband had sold their herd and were now in the process of converting their dairy farm into a “meat CSA”. I’m familiar with CSA’s (community supported agriculture) – in fact my wife and I have been members of a CSA in the past and I interviewed a CSA farmer for this show a while back.
That being said, I had never heard of the concept of a “meat CSA” and was excited when Sara accepted my invitation to join me on The Conversation Hub. During our conversation we spoke about:
- The transition from dairy farm operation to a CSA.
- The mechanics of a “meat CSA” versus a “traditional CSA”.
- What the change in direction meant for them as a family.
- The mission and core values they are using to guide their work.
